Paresh Rawal: Live on stage!

Paresh Rawal: Live on stage! paresh rawal 3 650x700 2008 12 22 278x300

Anyone who knows a bare minimum of Bollywood needs no introduction to Paresh Rawal. He is amongst the elite class of the best actors ever produced by India. A National Award as well as multiple filmfare awards winner he has enthralled us with his performances for over 25 years. Over the past decade he has tickled our funny bones to the limit.

He will be touring US performing for what the critics are calling, A hilariously entertaining and sensationally shocking Hindi play Krishan vs Kanhaiya. It is a story of an atheist who incurs huge losses when his antique shop is destroyed by an earthquake. The story revolves around the fight of the atheist with the Almighty. Along with the ever-versatile Paresh Rawal is his team of talented TV and stage artists including Dharmender Gohil, Sirdhar Vatsar, Vaibhav Biniwala, Khusboo Brhmbhatt, Chirag Vora, Ankit and others. This Hindi play is based on the super-hit comedy Gujarati play “Kanji Virrudh Kanji” currently rocking the Mumbai Theatres.

This play as said above is based on Gujarati play “Kanji Virrudh Kanji” but does any one know that do Paresh Rawal has the rights for this play to be run in USA? . The news which I have heard from India is that this script was actually taken illegally. Recently I went to see this and it was superb but it left me feeling guilty later that someone’s hard work is taken from them with out permission and it is ironic that the drama itself is about the same topic. I guess bottom line cash is king for bollywood when every one is doing the same why not few more. When they make so much money they do not have time to think creatively as they are busy trying to make more money any way possible. But I would not go see any more plays by Mr. Rawal though I think he is fine actor and I have meet him too few times.

  • Sushmita

Is this play appropriate for an 8 year old kid?

    I am a frustrated Paresh Rawal’s fan.
It is shame that Paresh Rawal’s fan can’t get the tickets for the show for reasonable price.
I want to buy two tickets for $35.00 (a reasonable price), but all tickets for $35.00/25.00
Are sold out from DAY 1 , only available tickets are $55.00 and up-not affordable!!!
For Sep 23,2010 at 19:30 show
    In Sandburg Middle School
    30 Harmony Rd
    Levittown

Any help to get the tickets for above show price will be greatly appreciated.

I went to this show in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday Sept 22. Thought I would get the tickets very easily specially since the show was on a weekday. I was shocked to see a huge crowd of people there. Later heard that it was a sell-out show, so I was glad I purchased my tickets earlier.

AMAZING SHOW and great effort put forth by DJ DESISOUNDZ TEAM to organize this show.

Yesterday we went to see this show It is a wonderful comedy but in the middle of part 2 Paresh Rawal stops the show and yells at a guy. Snatch his camera and destroy it. Show exposes not only the superstitions in Indian culture but arrogance of Bollywood movie industry.

  • RJ

I completely agree with Dr. V. Singh. The play was excellent and I will strongly recommend people to see this. Everyone has done superb job. As usual, Paresh Rawal’s acting was great but I was quite disappointed by his reaction of some fan taking his picture. He is so different in real life and in his role. Not sure what Bollybood stars think of themselves! I have great respect for Paresh Rawal as an actor but not sure what really he is as a human being???

  • Anil lahori

We were surprised too with the Arrogant reaction of Paresh at one of the audiences who was apparently using a Binocular (instead of A Camera as assumed by Paresh).
At the least he should apologised for his abrupt arrogance right away instead of laughing it off!!
Paresh Rawal at his best in the play versus Paresh Rawal at his worst on stage!!!

Anyone please tell me how I can bring a show like this to my city.

pls let me know who can i reach to bring this play to asia. rsprop@gmail.com. Would really appreciate it!

I traveled long to see this show in North Reading (Near Boston). The show was not that great as expected. In first half Paresh Rawal claims “Vahiyaat” things about God. He himself was Nastik (that’s not a problem) but he talks chip about those who believe in God. Whatever arguments he was making in dialogues, all those arguments have answers (convinced answers and scientific answer), but sad part is even author may not know them and those who watch play they do not know either, so everybody claps. In nut-shell first half was real disappointment. I agree with the flow for second half. In Second half he argues against merely ritualistic approach of temples and it’s very valid.

I cannot forget a dialogue, when reporter asked Kishan (Paresh Rawal), What does Dharm brings into one’s life. After thinking he replied, Either Lachari or Atankvaad. Now if you think properly, Bhagwad Geeta was told by Krishna and after listening him, Arjun got ready to fight, how come a person get “Lachar” after reading or understanding such Bhagwad Geeta?

In conclusion, you wouldn’t like first half of drama, if you are intellectually convinced of your thoughts. If you don’t have such thing or you just go to have fun irrespective of whatever goes on stage, you will like entire drama.

THIS SHOW IS AN INSULT TO HINDUISM – BOYCOTT THE SHOW

  • Nutan Patel

    Namaste,

We have recently come across Paresh Raval’s show, Krishan Vs Kanhaiya. A few snippets of this show are available on Youtube. This show singles out Hindu mandirs, Hindu priests and Hindu gurus and depicts them as corrupt, mocks temples and Hindu customs. The show is intended to be a comedy, however, it is impacting Hindu youth negatively and several of them have written to us seeking Hindu community’s response to this show. We have copied a few emails below for your reference.

We wanted to share this feedback with you as this show is going all across US and many temple-going Hindus will spend their money to watch it. Please make your own judgment about watching this show. Obviously we cherish everyone’s freedom of speech. But, if you feel this is offensive to Hindu Temples, priests and devotees, please exercise your own freedom of speech by sharing your opinions with your friends and family. It will also be appropriate to share your views with the organizers of the show to let them know that you are offended by the disparaging manner in which Hindu institutions are depicted and generalized.

    Hari Om!

Below are samples from 2nd generation youth that saw it.

    Hello xxx uncle,
Me and my 13 year old sibling went to watch this show called “Kishan VS Kanhayia “. After the show was over, I was shocked and pretty much confused to answer my siblings simple question that “brother, is this just a story or it is really practiced in India..!”. I believe that the message from this show would negatively impact an individual who hardly visits temple due to whatever reason. The show has completely humiliated the Hindu religion, it’s temples and the priests. Everything is presented as if those wrong practice of taking donations and greedy temple priests are universal for all temples on this planet. Think about how many more will take this false messages about our religion, temple and their priests.
We believe this to be a serious matter and would like to get it into your attention.

I was little shocked yesterday to watch Paresh Rawal’s show-Kishen verses Kanaiya.
The whole show has pretty much humiliated Hinduism from start to end. I see that you with all the temples and other communities are working hard to give the right knowledge about our tradition and culture. It will become much more challenging and hard after somebody watches this show. So, we need to boycott this show and spread the word in the country. I think, we should legally challenge them of some of the things that are incorrectly portrayed about our religion.
Hope you can pass on this word to the right people.

    Dear xxx uncle,
As per our conversation earlier today, I am writing to express my concern over Paresh Rawal’s show last night “Krishan Vs. Kanhaiya” in Indianapolis.
I had been to watch the show with my wife and was highly offended by the content of the drama.
I dont regularly go to temples, but am a devout hindu. My feelings were hurt by the show last night, especially its depiction about the Hindu temples and hindu priests. To give some examples of what was depicted in the drama :
    - It was shown that all the temples are in a “business” to collect money and whatever money people donate to the temples, goes to fill the coffers of the rich priests and buy deities.
    - A big mockery was made about the people who go to temple and perform the pujas/rituals and worship idols.
    - The temple priests were shown offering bribe to the character of Krishan (played by Paresh Rawal) and are always shown angry.
    - At one point of time, one of the temple priests says that it is ok to have a female companion (not exactly in platonic terms)..people wont know about it.
It would be understandable if it is shown as an isolated case, but it was generalized for all the hindu temples and the greater part of the show revolved around this. I found it somewhat humiliatilng to watch this show and strongly believe that some action should be taken against this.

I went to see the show and I concur with the following statements. I found show little one sided, calling people fool and stupid in believing in God and attending temples. They made fun of people’s blind faith but did not provide any closer or alternative point of view. Show pointed out the problems in the Temple system but did not provide positive solutions. There answer was do not go to Temple and don’t have faith.

  • Dharmesh

Shut-up, it’s not an insult to Hinduism, its an insult to people like you who let dum-ass organized religion to take over such a great religion and create a corporation out it.

  • Aruna Wadhwa

We enjoyed an evening of pure entertainment. The play was very intelligently written and professionally performed. It made you sit up and rethink your attitudes to God and religion. I am sure that the show is not meant to insult but make you think how we can become god-loving rather than God-fearing. I wish I had taken my parents and other friends to see it too  and would be intereste in obtaining a DVD of the filmed play.

Why do these pseudo secularists and Hindu haters pick on Hindus? They dare not attack Islam or xianity. But Hindus are fair game. Paresh Rawal has lost whatever respect I had for him.

  • Sw Amano Siresh

Hey Folks …. What a hard hitting and profound  play on Indian ritualism. Surprised people are terming it a comedy !! …  on second thoughts  maybe we do behave like a pack of  jokers. Incidentally I see this as a strong statement of Advaita Vedanta (as championed by Adi Shankaracharaya) the most profound Indian Philosophical school. Further surprised that none of the media critics have brought home this aspect … mybe we have just forgotten our rich legacy.

Pls do get in touch “sureshsapre@sify.com”

  • Sw Amano Suresh

Sorry about this repeat comment from me …. but who is the author ?? …. authors contact details ? … Ciao
