He is a flautist extraordinaire. He is considered a rare combination of innovator and traditionalist. He has expanded the expressive possibilities of the bansuri through his masterful blowing technique. Padma Bhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia has not only brought new techniques, and his unique expressions of the nuances of Indian classical music with such unsurpassed elegance to playing the bansuri, elevating it to a new level as a concert instrument but has also experimented with fusion music in the international arena.

He has collaborated with Western musicians like John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek, Mickey Hart, Louis Banks, John Handy, Amareesh Leib, Bendik Hofseth, Larry Coryell, and many others and has received wide acclaim from celebrities such as Yehudi Menuhin, George Harrison, Professor Jean-Pierre Rampal, Patrick Moutal, and others. Pandit Chaurasia has performed extensively with “Shakti”.

Also perfoming at this venue is one of India’s finest vocalists Pandit Jasraj. Perfect diction, clarity in sur and extreme tunefulness, command in all aspects of laya, choice of composition and interplay of the notes with the words to evoke the desired mood and feeling are other highlights of Panditji’s music.He was in concert and you can read more about that here. An Interesting piece of trivia about her: While returning from there to the South she met with an accident in which she had to get her right leg amputated. She believes that was the toughest time of her life but soon she overcame her disability with the help of a prosthetic ‘Jaipur foot’ to become one of the most highly acclaimed dancers of the Indian subcontinent. Her decision of coming back to the dancing arena after a brief gap of two years was met by a thunderous applause.
She received invitations from all over the world for performances and she was honoured with various awards after she performed as far as the European countries, Canada and the Middle East. Soon after she catapulted to fame and recognition by venturing into the world of films and television.
